Five secrets to creating viral blog posts

Convincing hundreds of people to read your blog

Getting your blog to go viral

The goal of any business creating a blog is to attract an audience. How do you convince hundreds of people to read your blog instead of single figures?

The answer is by posting blogs which spread virally.

So here our five secrets of creating viral blog posts.

A blog can perform a huge amount of publicity work and marketing for you without costing you a penny.

It can also reach a much wider target market than traditional marketing efforts such as direct mail because there are no geographic boundaries with the internet.

Blog writing is easy. But writing blog content that is shared among a bigger audience isn’t so straightforward and takes practice.

In reality, most small to medium-sized businesses don’t need to attract millions of people to their blog posts or social media pages.

A good measurement of success is simply increasing the reach that your blog posts achieve rather than trying and failing to write the kind of popular content that crashes websites.

Remember, you have your reputation to build so it’s important to avoid making too many controversial or shocking statements that could get you noticed but will also alienate your customers.

If your blog posts only usually attract a few dozen readers and you can manage to double this simply by writing more sharable content then this should be viewed as a success.

The following five secrets will help you to write better, relevant content which has a greater chance of going viral.

1. Come up with an emotive title

Titles are incredibly important when it comes to creating great viral blogs. The subject of your blog has to strike a chord with a mass audience.

A woman is sitting at a table holding a cup of coffee and reading a mobile phone.

2. Use images and video

Photos and videos are instantly appealing to web users. Even if you use the video to sum up some of the comments made in the content of your blog, this will have a more magnetic effect.

Additionally, Google owns YouTube and this means any video originating from the site will be placed favourably in search engine rankings.

Carry out some key word research to see what videos are ranking highly as a basis for your own blog title.

Photos also make blogs more attractive to the eye and can be a factor in the popularity stakes if they’re unusual or original.

3. Use social media

Few blog posts go viral without any effort at all on behalf of the author.

Usually, the creator will have marketed the blog itself through social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and chat forums.

If your own audience likes your blog post, you can rest assured they will share it, saving you lots of legwork.

4. Examine other viral blog posts

One of the best ways of increasing the attention your blog posts receive is to study other articles which have gone viral. Pay attention to the language used and the titles of the blog posts.

A person is holding a cell phone with social media icons on the screen.

5. Write lots of blogs

Not every blog you write will gain worldwide attention but if you write regularly, then naturally you have a better chance of posting something that will attract a bigger audience.

Any business which has a blog to attract and communicate with current/potential customers should be writing a minimum of two articles per month to be beneficial and preferably four or more times a month.

A blog is a great way of building a relationship with your customers and reaching out to new ones but don’t get carried away.

A business blog shouldn’t be searching for notoriety. It should be resonating with lots of people who could potentially benefit from your product or services.
